Nebraska Mesothelioma Lawyers

Unfortunately, malignant mesothelioma has a very poor prognosis. After diagnosis, a patient may be given between two months and three years. Mesothelioma is also entirely preventable. Asbestos exposure, such as those experienced in many Nebraska jobs, produces the vast majority of mesothelioma cases.

Danger Asbestos Warning SignMesothelioma can occur in three locations in the body:

  • Chest cavity (pleural) mesothelium
  • Abdominal cavity (peritoneum) mesothelium
  • Heart sac (pericardium) mesothelium

Depending upon the location of the mesothelioma, the symptoms will differ slightly. Mesothelioma, like other forms of cancer, is identified and diagnosed based on a staging system. According to the TNM (primary tumor, regional lymph nodes, distant metastasis) system, the most common staging system used with pleural mesothelioma, the stages are as follows:

  1. The mesothelioma is contained in the pleura on one side of the lungs. It may have spread to the lung, diaphragm or pericardium on the same side.
  2. In addition to the above stage, the mesothelioma has spread to local lymph nodes on the same side of the lung.
  3. The mesothelioma has spread to the chest wall, heart, ribs or other organ on the same side of the body as the lung.
  4. Distant metastases including the lymph nodes on the other side of the chest, the abdominal cavity or the neck.
